Starting a business

What do I need before starting my website and email?

A few business details and rough notes are enough to begin. Here is what helps, what can wait and what we work through together.

An open notebook beside a laptop, ready for business notes.

You do not need a finished technical brief, polished writing or a business email address to ask for help. Start with what your business does and how you want customers to contact you.

Bring the business facts

Write down your business name, the services you offer, where you work and any opening hours customers need to know. Include a phone number or email address customers can use. If you have not decided everything yet, say what is still being worked out.

Think about the next step a customer should take. Should they call, send an enquiry or book through a service you already use? That decision helps shape the website.

Rough notes and existing photos are useful

Bullet points about your services are enough to start planning the wording. You will check the business facts, prices and claims before anything goes live.

Bring an existing logo or photos if you have them and have permission to use them. If you do not, we can discuss what the site needs. New photography and logo design should be agreed separately, so you know whether they add to the cost.

Know which accounts you already have

If you have bought a website address or started using an email service, make a note of the provider. You do not need to identify every technical setting.

Do not send passwords or recovery codes in an enquiry. Any access needed for the work is arranged after the scope is agreed. If you are starting from scratch, the website address and business email can be planned together.

Separate setup costs from running costs

Building the website and setting up email are only part of the cost. Your website address renews, keeping the site online has a cost, and email may have a subscription for each user.

Before you approve work, check what the setup includes, which recurring services you will pay for, who bills you and what later changes cost. Extra pages, users or features should be agreed before they are added.

You can start before everything is ready

Tell us what you are starting, what you already have and any date you are aiming for. We can work through the missing details together and confirm what needs to happen before launch.

See the website and email startup offer, or tell us about your business. A personal email address or phone number is fine for the first conversation.

Get in touch

A rough description is enough to get started.

We can talk through the work and the next steps.
